Staying with an Australian homestay family gives international students the opportunity to build lifelong friendships, improve their English, share their own culture, and experience life in a safe, welcoming home environment.
At Woodcrest State College, we want every student to feel happy, comfortable, and respected as part of their homestay family. All our homestay providers are carefully selected, interviewed, and visited by the school to ensure they meet EQI standards for safety and care. Our hosts are friendly, inclusive, and genuinely enjoy welcoming students from around the world into their homes.
Each homestay provider offers:
A private room with study space
Three meals per day
A supportive, caring environment
Opportunities to participate in Australian family life
Adjusting to a new culture and living situation can take time, and it’s completely normal for students to feel a range of emotions — including homesickness. Please remember that you're not alone. Our school has two full-time Homestay Coordinators available to assist you at all times with any concerns, questions, or support you may need.
It’s also important to understand that Australia is a multicultural country, and there is no “typical” Australian family. Your host family might include parents, children, pets — or be a single-parent household. Regardless of the structure, all homestay families are here to support your wellbeing and help you adjust to life in Australia.
Students are expected to:
Be respectful and communicative with their host family
Take part in family routines and activities
Help keep their space and shared areas clean
Be active members of their homestay household
Our Executive Principal enjoys meeting the families of our international students when they visit Brisbane, and we are proud of the supportive community we provide for students living away from home.
