I am very pleased to be part of a College that has such an important role to play in the lives of young people and in the wider Greater Springfield community. Woodcrest is a large and diverse P–12 College, and with that comes both great opportunity and great responsibility. Our task is to ensure that every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their best, while developing the knowledge, skills, confidence and character they need for whatever comes next.
Our vision is simple: we foster a culture of belonging that promotes engagement in learning and supports students to achieve excellence and success in their future pathways.
For me, the idea of belonging and a culture of belonging is fundamental to this vision, and an important first strategic priority for our school. Young people learn best when they feel that they are known, that they matter, and that they are part of something bigger than themselves. A strong College community does not happen by accident. It is built through relationships, high expectations, shared responsibility, and the many opportunities we provide for students to contribute, lead, and have a voice in the life of the College.
But belonging is not an end in itself. It creates the conditions in which students can engage deeply in their learning and achieve. This is why our second strategic priority is engaging teaching and learning. We want every student to experience teaching that is purposeful, challenging and responsive to their needs. Our teachers work collaboratively to strengthen their practice, use evidence and data to understand how students are progressing, and create learning experiences that encourage students to think, participate, and take increasing responsibility for their own learning. Across Prep to Year 12 and beyond, we are committed to ensuring that every student makes progress and is supported to reach their potential through strong connections with our community.
At Woodcrest, those connections matter. We are fortunate to have a community that extends well beyond the College gates, including families, local organisations, employers, further education providers, and our partners at WesTEC. These relationships create opportunities for our students to connect their learning with the world around them and to see possibilities for their futures. As Executive Principal, my role is to help bring these things together – to align our people, our systems and our practices around what matters most for students. I believe strongly that great schools are built by great communities, and that the best education is something we create with young people, families and staff, rather than simply provide to them.
Our aspiration is for every student to leave Woodcrest with a strong sense of who they are, a belief in what they can achieve, and the knowledge, capabilities, and pathways to pursue their ambitions.
