Writing Club
Writing Club is a weekly meeting held on a Friday during a lunch break for students who love creative writing. We learn about the narrative structure of a story, how we can engage our audience, how to write for different genres, as well as the basics of writing like spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Robotics Club
The Woodcrest Robotics Club meets every Thursday after school. In the robotics club, students have opportunities to design, build, and program small-scale, robots.
Through hands-on activities, team work and project-based learning students learn how to:
- Plan designs
- Create prototypes
- Code robots to move autonomously
- Assess and implement design modifications and/or program modification
There are two teams within the robotics club:
The Junior team is open to students from Year 7 to 9. This team works mainly with the LEGO EV3 robots and enter the First LEGO League in term 4 each year.
The Senior team, for students in Years 10 and above, utilise various components of their own design to create a robot for the First Tech Challenge, also held in term 4 each year.
DnD Club
Every Monday afterschool the Resource Centre offers a Dungeons and Dragons meet up where students from across the college can join together to explore a world where their quest is set. Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy story telling role playing game where players assume characters and work together to create stories and adventures.
Book Club
Every second Thursday lunch the Resource Centre offers a Book Club to all Secondary students giving them an opportunity to discuss everything pop-culture, book genres and most importantly books!
